It is very elegant. Located in the middle of Paseo de Gràcia, it has an area of 465 square meters and is a large part of what was just a few years ago a brand new apartment in Barcelona’s Eixample. It’s called the Royal Penthouse, and it’s been voted the world’s best hotel suite this year.
The decision was made by the Villégiature awards jury, which consists of 22 journalists specialized in hospitality from all over the world. They personally visit and test all nominees for these awards, which will be 20 years old in 2023, and have become an important thermometer in the sector.
One of the best suite bathrooms in the world
Curiously, in the last round, the Catalonia Hotel won a legend in its category: Martinez de Cannes. A landmark on the famous Croisette promenade, this Côte d’Azur establishment was founded in 1929. By then, the Majestic had been welcoming guests from all over the world to one of the city’s best quarters for 11 years. Owned by Martin Casals Galcerán since the late twenties, he dedicated a large part of his life to making this place one of Barcelona’s reference hotels.

The Soldevila-Casals lived on the highest floor of the hotel: the 800-meter floor, which was converted into a large suite.
After his death in 1963, the reins of the company were taken over by his heirs, the Soldevila-Casals, who improved the hotel and its services in three main phases: in the 1970s, in the pre-Olympic years and today. A 30 million euro investment that allowed the hotel to become part of the Leading Hotels of The World group, an association of quality establishments that regularly measures 1,500 different parameters to welcome and retain its members.

Soldevila-Casalide’s Barcelona home was on the top floor of the Majestic: an 800 m2 apartment that was reduced in recent renovations in favor of new suites. When it was finally empty, it was decided to build a royal penthouse there, which will become the jewel of this five-star hotel and the largest suite in Barcelona, allowing for the addition of a very determined clientele looking for space. , exclusivity and privacy: from royals from different states, to great fortunes from countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, Brazil or the United States, and world stars from the world of cinema, sports or art.
